I’m home!

Posted by Matt Thomson 2 Comments »

I’ve spent the past 6 days at a conference in New Orleans.  Don’t mean to offend, but if I never go back there again it’ll be just fine with me.  I wrote a little jingle to the tune of “Back in the Saddle” by Gene Autry (I know I’m in Gig Harbor, not Seattle, but Seattle sounds a whole lot more like “the saddle” than Gig Harbor!):

I’m back in Seattle again,

back with my wife, my best friend!

Where the sky is blue and the water is too,

I’m back in Seattle again!

Friday Videos–O Holy Night (Third Day)

Posted by Matt Thomson No Comments »

A few Friday’s worth of my favorite Christmas songs!  Amazing if you go to YouTube and search these songs how many artists have sung these.  Tough to beat Mac Powell’s voice, though.

Seeing as how it is Thanksgiving weekend and all, I thought this would be an appropriate Friday song.

Friday Videos–Running Down a Dream

Posted by Matt Thomson 1 Comment »

Tomorrow is the NAIA National Cross Country Championships in Vancouver, WA.  My wife and I both ran cross country for Westmont College, where former Gig Harbor High star Kate Stuart is now a sophomore.  The Westmont men’s team won their conference championship and will be running at Nationals.  Tom Petty is every runner’s best inspiration!

Friday videos–Blame it on the Rain

Posted by Matt Thomson No Comments »

What is going on with the weather in Gig Harbor the past two days?  Last night around 11:30pm I thought our house would collapse under the rain.  Driving around yesterday and today has been a chore too.  In honor of Gig Harbor’s unusually hard rain the past two days, I figured I’d break out a classic video!

Friday videos–Veggie Tales

Posted by Matt Thomson 1 Comment »

Halloween is supposed to be really scary.  I’m not a big fan of scary things.  In honor of Halloween, then, here’s the Veggie Tales singing “God is bigger than the Boogie Man.”

Friday Night Videos–Boyz II Men

Posted by Matt Thomson 1 Comment »

I was such a nerd in high school.  I don’t know if my friends either didn’t tell me, or if they did and I just didn’t listen.  Either way, I was a nerd.  The worst kind, too.  Not the nerd who knows he’s a nerd so it’s okay, but the kind who thought he was cool.  I had an identity crisis my junior year and became a hip hop rapper.  I started dressing like Boyz II Men.  Denim shirt with a tie, denim shorts (yes, shorts with a tie), high top brown suede shoes with my white tube socks scrunched down, and a bright blue Toronto Blue Jays hat.  I was smooth.  Check out the video for a glimpse into my sad junior year of high school.

Friday Videos–Ray Boltz

This video is “Thank You”by Ray Boltz.  When my brother was killed in an auto accident in July of ‘96, I was given a tape of a young girl at a summer camp who sang this song to my brother just days before he died.  I know it’s a bit heavy, but it’s nothing but joy now.  It hurt at the time my brother’s friends gave me the tape, but now it’s just further confirmation that Scott is in heaven, and others will join him because of the work he allowed God to do through him.  He would have been 37 on Sunday.

Friday Videos–Bruce Springsteen

Posted by Matt Thomson No Comments »

I love The Boss.  My brother had a box set of his tapes when we were kids, and I just thought it was the coolest.  This song didn’t become my favorite Springsteen song until about 3 years ago.  Makes me miss Park City.  Not the post-Olympics Park City, but the Park City where I grew up.  The one with no traffic lights.  The one where the 4th of July parade was still fun and not so commercial.  It’s not that Park City was a textile town with gang fights and racial tension, just that my hometown has changed a lot.  Makes me wonder what memories my daughter will make in Gig Harbor.

Friday Videos–Tim McGraw

I don’t have what it takes to serve in the military.  I just don’t.  I’ve had several clients in the military, and I just have a ton of respect for them.  This song is a great tribute to our service men and women.
