There’s more to Gig Harbor than El Pueblito

Posted by Matt Thomson

There, I said it out loud…”there’s more to Gig Harbor than El Pueblito.”  Gig Harbor isn’t known for our wide variety of restaurants, but we do have a few. My wife and I (and now our daughter too) have enjoyed a weekly date night at El Pueblito for about the past 7 years.  I’m not sure we’ve missed more than 10 weeks in that span.  I can’t remember the last family birthday not celebrated at El Pueblito.  It’s not just that they have the best Mexican food in Gig Harbor, it’s the service there too.  They know us.  They know our order.  When your water is low, it doesn’t matter if it’s the bus girl or the owner who sees it, they’ll fill it up.  Need more chips?  Any waiter, not just your waiter, will gladly fill them up.

But enough about El Pueblito.  We do eat other places from time to time.  But enough about us.  Where do you like to eat in Gig Harbor?  Let us know the best!

Tell me your favorite place to grab a bite to eat in Gig Harbor!

Kinza is my favorite place. The Udon is phenomenal.

You’re right, I should have included Kinza. That’s our favorite Asian food place in Gig Harbor.

  3. Maura says:

Ah. Not fair. I’ll bet there are at least 35 places to eat on the Gig Harbor Peninsula!

    Where is Kinza????

  5. Matt Thomson says:

It’s on Kimball Dr, just down from Kimball Espresso Gallery.

Thanks- have been craving some good Japanese food!

We enjoy the Marketplace Grill – same beautiful view as Anthony’s but half the price and less people. Great sandwiches! The staff is really sweet too!

From your list I would have chosen El Pueblito, but I think you were remiss in leaving out Sunfire Grill. They have a menu that is definitely not haute cuisine but they are locally owned and actually cook their food as opposed to a comparable chain restaurant like Applebees or Red Robin. They have great breakfasts available all day as well.

My vote is for Susanne’s and “SAH” Cafe. (Saint Anthony’s Hospital) The food is excellent and they even offer a 20% senior (over 55) discount on Sunday’s. Susanne’s has the best soup and sandwiches in town…

Thai Hut is our family’s favorite. We first ate there when we were still house-hunting in the area–and I must say, Thai Hut was the final point that made us decide to live in Gig Harbor! Where we used to live, we had to drive 60 miles to the closest decent Thai restaurant.

Thanks for posting this topic! My husband and I are soon moving to our new home near Miracle Ranch in Purdy from Federal Way. So, Gig Harbor is, in our minds, our new closest city with wonderful shops and people. Good to hear locals opinions on where to eat. Any good French food near by? My husband grew up in France.

Tokyo Teriyaki next to the Harbor Barber is the spot. Kim and her husband are the best, and they love kids. Try the Mongolian Beef and the Korean BBQ. The kids love the edamame and they have great sushi made to order…we love the LOVE ROLL. Our favorite! Tell Kim what you like and she will guide you to the perfect choice! We also like the pizza at Fondi but that places is not very relaxing.
