Gig Harbor and Peninsula High Cross Country win big!
Gig Harbor High School and Peninsula High School cross country teams both competed in the West Central District Championships yesterday in an attempt to qualify for the State Championships in Pasco. Qualify they did, and then some! The Tides boys andgirls teams won the District title, with Tide junior Maureen Tremblay winning the individual title. The Seahawks boys also won their team title, while the PHS girls placed 3rd. The top 8 teams qualified for state, so all four local teams will be running in Pasco!
In addition to Tremblay’s individual title, there were several other great performances. Tide senior Conor Peloquin placed 2nd in the boys’ 4A race. The Seahawk boys were led by senior David Lee’s 4th place finish in the boy’s 3A race, and sophomore Addi Johnson led the Peninsula girls by placing 8th in the 3A girls’ race.
Like I wrote yesterday, I LOVE the atmosphere of high school cross country. I had the pleasure of being at the 1 mile mark calling out the splits for all of the races. Amazing how loud it was, and how competitive each of the races were. Just a fantastic day! Check out the complete results from all of the day’s races.
