Friday Videos–Billy Vera
I’m going to steal a page out of the book of my colleague Scott Cowan. He ran a series on his blog of his favorite videos, posting a new one each Friday. Totally devoid of any creativity, but thinking it was a fun idea, I thought I’d copy him. Why? ‘Cause it’s my blog and I can! Really, although I have no musical talent at all, I love music and think it’s a fun way to share stories about me. Besides, it’s just fun to explore YouTube for old favorites!
So each Friday for as long as I can, I’ll run a different video of a favorite song, with a short explanation of why I like the song.
This first song, by Billy Vera, has been a favorite since I can remember. Bummer thing is is that I don’t remember why I like it so much. It’s just been that song…the one I always break out into. Who knows? The interview with Vera at the end makes you want to hate the song, so turn it off after the song is over!

That song was Alex’s love song in “Family Ties”.
I have no idea why I remember that.

I have loved that song since as far back as I can remember – the sax riff still just takes me home everytime. Sang this song in a bunny costume doing kareoke one halloween – wife still won’t let me live it down. Rolls her eyes everytime the song plays on the radio. Billy Vera was a one hit wonder – took me years to actually know and remember the name of the artist. That interview after probably says a lot about why. Thanks for a fun post. Great Job. JW

Billy Vera is multi-talented on many fronts.
He produced the last four Low Rawls CD and was nominated for a Grammy on the last one.
I just produced his first webcast last March from Vitello’s Italian Restaurant, there is a night club up stairs. He’s great to start with and a pleasure to work with on top of that.
The concert consisted of Billy on the Yamaha Grand Piano and one of his Sax players, Lon Price. Lon a season pro in his own right has back such artists as Elvis… and I will leave there. They did many of Billy’s hits and he would tell great stories about the music business. Billy has seen so much.
Billy has a newer CD out, “Hopeless Romantic-The Best of Billy Vera the Beaters.” Completely remaster and sounds the best of any live recording I have heard to date..Shout Factory Records, internationally distributed on your places that sell CD.
Take care
