So, why buy a home in Gig Harbor?
I recently looked over a report that was published by Baylor University that looked at the trends in residential real estate. 850 national economists were polled about their thoughts on where the real estate markets were headed in their regions, and the replies came back fairly unified.
A few highlights: Most economists felt that home prices would hit bottom towards the end of 2009. About 80% of them felt that home prices would be higher in 5 years than they are now (so it won’t be a quick rebound). A strong majority felt that the volume of home sales would begin increasing within the next few months. My favorite finding? 94% of the economists polled said that you should buy a home based on your life situation, not on the economy. If you are moving, recently married, kids are growing up, kids have moved out, etc, are the main reasons that economists feel you should buy a home. Home ownership is still considered one of the best means to acquire long-term wealth, and there are social and emotional benefits to home ownership that are not measured in dollar signs.
So why buy a home in Gig Harbor? We bought our home here because we enjoy it here. We like the community. We love all the surrounding water. We like seeing Mt Rainier every day (okay, days it’s not covered in clouds). We love all of the parks and play areas around. Below is a picture of the new park under construction in North Gig Harbor, Sehmel Park. It looks amazing. A few months ago this area was a nice forest, now it’s the start of a beautiful community park. Gig Harbor offers many great housing deals, including several bank-owned homes in the Gig Harbor area. There are bank-owned homes ranging from a 3800+sf home with 4bds and 4.25ba in the Black Bear development adjacent to the Gig Harbor Golf Course for $429,000 to a 6.6acre estate with a view of the Olympic Mountains and a swimming pool for $369,000 (it needs some serious work) to a beautiful home on a fairway of the Canterwood Country Club for only $509,000. There are other values like my listing with 129′ of sandy beach waterfront, over 1 acre of land, just minutes from downtown Gig Harbor for only $699,000 and my 3200+sf home with amazing views of Hale Passage for just $585,000. For those looking to build a dream home, how about 1.4acres about a mile from Gig Harbor High School for $194,500? Gig Harbor’s real estate market has plenty of great deals, it just requires people in the right stage of life who are willing to make a move that is right for their family.
