Get involved in Gig Harbor
I received the following email from Officer Mock and wanted to pass it along to you. If you’re looking for a way to get involved in the Gig Harbor community, this may be a great way. A study that was done recently showed that 30% of the teens interviewed in Gig Harbor said that their parents had given them alcohol. It is certainly a parent’s right to do as they deem best for their child, but giving them alcohol seems dangerous at best. Any thoughts from you parents?
You are cordially invited to a newly formed Community Empowerment Group, led by Gig Harbor Police Department’s Community Service officer, Lynn Mock. Its purpose is to inform, empower, and mobilize Gig Harbor’s community resources to be available for the sole purpose of keeping our community the safest it can be for Gig Harbor’s citizens and children. Please join us:
When: Tuesday, October 14th from 10:00am – 11:00am
Where: State Farm Insurance 7201 Pioneer Way ( new building corner of Pioneer and Grandview across from the Civic Center)
What is the COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT GROUP (CEG)? The goal of the Community Empowerment Group (CEG) is to prevent our youth from falling prey to poor choices such as drug and alcohol abuse. We want to refocus their attention toward positive activities through prevention, direction, education, mentoring and support. This includes giving parents the tools.
What is Party Patrol? It is a group of Volunteers, Law Enforcement, Nurses and counselors, as well as youth that want to reduce and stop underage drinking parties in our community.
How can you help support these efforts? Help us in our efforts to prevent the senseless tragedies that can occur when underage drinking is left unchecked.
Together we can form an alliance and address this problem with a unified purpose in mind: to protect our young people and to prevent many of the problems that are related to the alcohol problems in our community.
