Time to get Giggy–Gig Harbor’s Maritime Festival
Gig Harbor’s summer begins with the Gig Harbor Maritime Festival! Saturday, June 7th the festivities begin with the 5k Fun run. All day Saturday and Sunday the downtown Gig Harbor waterfront will be crawling with activities, from a parade, booths, tons of children’s activities, and more.
If you’re looking for a great way to get to know Gig Harbor, this upcoming weekend is it! The festival takes place along Harborview Drive in Downtown Gig Harbor, and most of it is free! My wife will be running the 5k run, and then we’ll watch the parade as a family.
Pretty much all day Saturday, the 7th, the downtown area will be set apart for the Maritime Gig Festival. It’s undoubtedly one of Gig Harbor’s premier events, catering especially to families. If you come to the parade, bring sunscreen and bags for candy, as many of the floats get carried away!
I’d guess that the parade runs for about an hour (it’s a pretty big one) and then all of the booths and food, etc run the rest of the day. The festival’s website appears to be down, but hopefully they’ll get it up for the weekend.
On Sunday, you can participate in the “Blessing of the Fleet,” in which Gig Harbor’s fishing boats are sent off for the season. This is followed by the “Taste of Gig Harbor,” in which many of Gig Harbor’s most popular restaurants come together to offer samplings of their great foods. So if you’re anywhere near the South Puget Sound this upcoming weekend (June 7th and 8th), make it a point to stop by Gig Harbor. The Maritime Gig Festival, 5k race, Blessing of the Fleet, and Taste of Gig Harbor are sure to keep you and your family entertained!

We’ll be marching in the parade with Julian’s preschool, Rainy Dayz, so look for us! We should be about mid-parade. We’ll be sure and throw some extra candy your way.

I am bummed. I will miss it this year. It should still be a blast, it’s very well organized and fun for all!

[...] it’s the weather. Maybe it’s the fact that we’ll all be at this weekend’s Maritime Gig Festival. Whatever the reason, there are only 7 open houses in Gig Harbor this weekend. Click on the map [...]
