Here is the list of open houses in Gig Harbor for this weekend. Only 10 homes this week! Click on the interactive map to find out full information. Position your cursor over a push pin to see number of bedrooms, bathrooms, price, date and time, and who the listing agent of the property is. Remember, the push pins are approximate…if you click on “bird’s eye view” you’ll see a great shot of the neighborhood, but the pin won’t necessarily be on the exact home that is open.

If you find a home you’re interested in, I am happy to provide you with more information about the home and walk you through the process of purchasing a home. Just call or email!

Gig Harbor has some beautiful scenery, and some exciting wildlife as well. One thing I love about selling homes in Gig Harbor is hearing back from my clients about all the great things they love about their new home. I’ve featured photos from John Pleau before, but these may be the most remarkable. John’s a good friend, great photographer, all around good guy, and was a pretty good client, too.
Check out these photos he took from the deck of his Ray Nash waterfront home today. He assured me the baby ducklings all came out safely, and some large geese jumped in the fray to chase off the eagle. Amazing what you can view in Gig Harbor…who needs a TV?

Bald eagle swooping in for a snack.

DUCK duckling!

I just listed this gorgeous waterfront property in Gig Harbor, WA. 1.14 acres, 129′ of sandy beach, views that extend forever. A savvy buyer will grab this property in today’s buyer’s market and turn it into an amazing waterfront estate.

I’ve lived in some beautiful places in my lifetime. Growing up in Park City, UT; going to college in Santa Barbara, CA; living for a semester in San Francisco; then moving here to Gig Harbor, Wa. I enjoyed all of those places, but I believe that Gig Harbor is the most beautiful of all the places I’ve ever lived or even visited.

Spring time in Gig Harbor, and most of the South Puget Sound region, is gorgeous. I’m not much of a gardener. As I’ve said before, about the only thing I can keep green year round is the moss that gathers in my yard. Here are a few photos I snapped today. As I pulled into my driveway, I was struck again by the beauty of Gig Harbor and all that grows here. I know the red flower is a Rhododendron, but I don’t have a clue what either of the blossoming trees are. I’d be interested if any of you green thumbs know.

For this week’s look at the Gig Harbor real estate market, I am bringing you an interactive map of the properties sold in Gig Harbor thus far in April. Home sales are picking up in Gig Harbor, with 104 single family homes and condos having sold thus far in 2008. I will update this map weekly, giving you a visual of how many homes and where in Gig Harbor the homes are selling. The push pins are approximate. When you’re in the map, click on “Birds eye” and you get an incredible view of the neighborhood. The pins aren’t exactly on the house that sold…I couldn’t spend that much time!

Click on the interactive map and then click on any of the pushpins for more information. Included in the information is asking price, final sales price, and total days the property was on the market. The asking price is the price that the home was listed for when they closed, not necessarily the original asking price. For example, a home may have been listed for $500,000, then price reduced to $475,000, and then sold for $450,000. The $475,000 will be shown as the asking price, and $450,000 as the sold price.
This info is from the NWMLS and deemed reliable but not guaranteed. For a list of all of the 2008 home sales, or for home sale information in Port Orchard, Tacoma, or the surrounding area, just give me a call or email me.

There’s no question that Gig Harbor is a great place for runners, joggers, and walkers. Especially on days like today (it hit 76 degrees on our thermometer today!). Sunny days like today, the Gig Harbor waterfront is crawling with folks out for a walk. There are numerous places to run as well for those who like to pick up the pace a bit.

Until recently, there wasn’t a place in Gig Harbor for the fitness folks to outfit themselves. That has now changed. Route 16 Running and Walking has recently opened on Kimball Drive. If you are looking for running shoes, rain gear, or warm weather running clothes, Route 16 has you covered. Even those looking for racing spikes for their track and field season can find an assortment of racing shoes here.

Perhaps the greatest service Route 16 will provide is the resource for runners and walkers. Many folks visiting Gig Harbor may be looking for a running group. Route 16 can help. Or maybe you want to know the best places to walk. Route 16 can help. Have aches and pains from running and need a doctor referral? Route 16 can help.

Whether you’re a high school track star looking for track spikes, a weekend warrior looking for new running shoes, or a casual walker looking for a new walking outfit, check out Route 16 and see what they have in store. Look for Route 16 to be sponsoring local running races in Gig Harbor as well. This is a fitness based community, and Route 16 will fill a need for many of our residents and visitors.

More than once I’ve shared my preference for supporting small, locally owned businesses in favor of large chains. I try to do my best to feature local businesses on this site to draw more attention to them. Gig Harbor resident Jonn Moomaw posted this great article on his blog today. This story from his family in Spokane puts to words my desires and gives a great blue print for how to support local businesses and why it’s important.
Here’s a quick list of some of my favorite Gig Harbor restaurants that we enjoy visiting:
- El Pueblito–Gig Harbor’s best Mexican food and best service overall
- Kimball’s Espresso–Great place to sit and chat, view their art gallery, and enjoy a yogucinno
- Harbor Greens–GREAT sandwiches, fruit that’s better than any store’s you’ve ever tried, lots of good, healthy foods
- Australian Bite Cafe–Fun new foods, great location, friendly owners
Those are just a few of my favorite places to eat in Gig Harbor. There are plenty more, I’m sure, and plenty of other small businesses (book stores, pet stores, etc) that are well worth visiting.

When people contact me about living in Gig Harbor, there are 2 main concerns that I frequently hear: 1. Is there any affordable housing (yes) and 2. How bad is the commute? In July of ‘07, the 2nd (well 3rd if you count the one that fell into the Sound) Tacoma Narrows Bridge opened and the commute time has been drastically reduced.
Getting from Gig Harbor across the Narrows Bridge and back again used to pose some definite problems at various times of the day. Now, since the opening of our new bridge, I have yet to experience any significant slow downs in either direction at any time of day. If you’re looking to take a job in Seattle or Tacoma, and have considered moving to Gig Harbor, don’t let the drive stop you.
I posted a blog a while back with some public transportation options from Gig Harbor to Tacoma and Seattle. Driving (if you discount the odd way that Washington drivers drive–no turn signals, left lane goes slower than right, etc) isn’t much of an issue, either.
So what about the tolls on the Narrows Bridge? Currently, if you pay cash it’s $3 round trip, and if you have a “Good-to-Go” pass it’s $1.75 round trip (you only pay heading east). It looks as though both of those numbers will jump by $1 here in the near future for the next year. Still not a bad deal compared with many other toll roads across the nation (I remember driving from Chicago to Kenosha, WI, and it felt like we stopped every 2 miles to pay another $.85 toll). For my money, the lifestyle and beauty of Gig Harbor, Wa, combined with the ease of commuting now, is well worth the money!
