Galaxy Theater and more getting closer

Posted by Matt Thomson

Gig Harbor’s Uptown Center is getting further and further along.  I didn’t really want to say this, for fear that my wife would read it, but Ann Taylor Loft is now open in Gig Harbor.  I’m going to have to sell a few more houses to support her Ann Taylor habit.  Actually, I’m quite fortunate in that my wife, while she enjoys shopping, is extremely thrifty and is a great deal-seeker.

In addition to the opening of Ann Taylor, Gig Harbor’s new Galaxy Theater is set to have their grand opening on Friday, March 7th.  They are offering the first 500 guests a free T-shirt and the first 100 guests will receive a free 90 day pass!  The entire first weekend will feature $1 popcorn and $1 soda.   I’m not sure how or if you can go to the movies with a 5 month old, but that sounds like a pretty good time to me!

Still no word yet on the restaurants that will be part of the Uptown Center, but as soon as I know I’ll post them.  Currently, Panera Bread Co and Jamba Juice are open, as well as the cafe inside of Borders Bookstore.

Wish we could be there to babysit, so you could go to the grand opening!!

Thanks for the offer! Too bad you’re not closer.

  3. Lory French says:

There’s a Ben and Jerry’s, Dude. What more do you need?

  4. Matt Thomson says:

Did I forget to mention Ben and Jerry’s? There’ll be a Ben and Jerry’s there, too.
I still prefer Kelly’s or Animal Crackers downtown for my ice cream, though!

  5. Lory French says:

Kelly’s lost my business when they started carrying peanuts. Alas!

Hey Matt, I would be more than happy to babysit!!! I will even come to your house!!! We need a Norstrom Rack and something like a Red Robin but No to Applebee’s!!! The YMCA is a great addition but we need something more for the older kids. Bowling anyone???

When are they going to announce the restaurant!! I keep hearing so many different rumors. I am so excited.

  8. Matt Thomson says:

Great question! I keep checking our Chamber newsletter and the papers…I don’t know yet!

    Matt,

My son is working in the new theater and I have been in it and it is awesome. The screens are all digital and enhanced surround sound. The adult theater is 74 luxury seats that recline and they will be serving alchohol. There is more to tell but everyone should be impressed with this theater. By the way my wife offered to babysit but never heard from you. What is up with that?

Thanks a ton for the offer! I’m not sure my wife (or myself) is ready to leave the baby yet. I really do appreciate the offer, though.
Alchohol in the adult theater seems a bit risky. I can’t imagine it’ll be too hard for 19-20 year olds to sneak over to that theater.
For those who haven’t heard, the adult theater is not showing “adult” movies, but rather a place where adults can go watch a movie without the “distraction” of kids or teenagers.

Matt - thought you might enjoy knowing our family got 6 of those coveted 90 passes….so your former student Shelby Novotny is the proud owner of a 90 day pass. Yes Mr. Thomson, she skipped school a bit to get it as did her siblings…

They were all a little disappointed when handed a poker chip last night and told they could go home come back on Friday and exchange it for their 90 day passes…their big plans of sleeping on the streets of Gig Harbor were over. However, they did have the coveted chip in their hands.

  12. Matt Thomson says:

That’s awesome! I can’t believe you let her skip school for that, though :-)
I’m glad they didn’t have to freeze on the streets, though it would have made for a great story!

What I’ve heard was the rumor for the restaurant is Duke’s Chowder house, also another clothing store, Adam+Eve, a very high end clothing store for men and women. It was published in the New Yorker recently. Red Robin is a no, because of some stipulation that Gig Harbor won’t allow red roof building in city. Bloom Jeans is coming (high end jean company), Posh Paw, a pet boutique for all of you that would like to dress up your poodles. A bowling alley won’t be coming back anytime soon is another rumor. Just a little from my rumorville. I won’t give out my full name but I talk to a lot of people everyday.
