Sure, the commute will be worse, but think of all the new waterfront homes we'll have. If we get an earthquake every 43 years, I'll be okay with that!

So, if the lahar wipes out I-5 between Tacoma and Federal Way for several weeks (follow the river!), won't that commute to Amazon, Boeing and Microsoft be a bit difficult?

I seem to recall a few earthquakes too, including the 1965 quake with an epicenter near Gig Harbor.

Well said -- good writing and although fictional, well, you hear these stories all the time. It's hard to find someone who owns a home (who doesn't HAVE to sell) who regrets the decision.

Very nice article! It is a shame, when some unreputable agents are trying to make deal so firmly, that they forget client's needs. Buying a new home is very serious decision in man's life and influences him for a long time. If we want to make long term relation with client, we have to help him to find a Home, not just to sell a house. It is profitable also for realtor. In Toronto real estate we use By referral only attitude - most beneficiary for realtor is his reputation - it can't be substituted by any marketing tool...

Good post; the problem I have is that there is an absolute savings; the interest + rent money both go somewhere.

Well done! You presented all sides of the issue. Bottom line, if people do not want to buy they should not. Those who do want to buy, should. The decision is very personal and has to be made on an individual basis.

I think you always give such good advice, Matt. This story was a "fun" way to share good information. Hope that folks will read it and decide that you are definitely the realtor for them!
