As you can tell by its rather pronounced, unsightly plumage, its definitely a... oh what's its name...
Ok... so Matt took my best guess with his turkey hypothesis. Maybe a turkey-gull kind of a thing? I say it's time to call in the expert on Pacific Northwest gulls. Anyone heard from Mr. Martin?
As a sidenote, I have to agree with Matt's rave review of Harbor Greens. I don't know much about that Teodoro character, but he and that Roy guy sure seem to have a good thing going. Whenever my husband and I fly into town (from San Diego) Harbor Greens is one of our first stops. Kudos on the website, Matt!

I'm not sure what genus or specis this particular bird is, but if you're able to catch it I know a great red wine bird sauce. Thanks for your help in our recent home transaction. I enjoyed your blog entry on buying a home vs. buying a house. You truly set us up with a home ripe for memory building! Scott

Looks like a resting heron or egret to me. It would be nice to see a profile photo to get a better look at it's beak. What color were it's legs and feet? How tall would you guess it was. Did you see it fly? It is definitely not a turkey vulture. My best guess is a juvenile green heron or a juvenile black-crowned night heron. Do you have any other photos?

Maybe it is a Turkey Vulture...I used to have a bird book around here of Puget Sound birds and remember identifying/seeing one in my pasture eating a snake.
